Can I deposit money directly into MetaMask?

Excuse me, but I was wondering if you could clarify something for me. I've been hearing a lot about MetaMask and its uses in the cryptocurrency world. My question is, can I deposit money directly into MetaMask, or does it work in a different way? I'm a bit new to this, so I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it all fits together.
