Can I use US dollars in Croatia?

I'm planning a trip to Croatia soon and I'm wondering if I can use US dollars there for transactions like paying for meals, accommodations, and shopping. Is it widely accepted in Croatia, or should I exchange my dollars for the local currency, the kuna, before I arrive? Additionally, are there any credit card or debit card options that are commonly accepted in Croatia that would allow me to avoid carrying a lot of cash?
