I'm trying to locate the mint mark on a coin. I understand it's an important indicator of where and when the coin was produced, but I'm not sure where to look for it.
Mercury Dimes, minted from 1916 to 1945, feature a mint mark on the reverse side. This mark is positioned NEAR the bottom left of the coin, specifically beneath the axe handle. Collectors should carefully examine this area to identify the mint mark.

Washington Quarters, on the other hand, have been in production since 1932 and are still being minted today. Unlike Mercury Dimes, the mint mark on Washington Quarters appears on the obverse side of the coin. It is situated just below the date, providing a clear indication of where it was minted.

On older Washington Quarters, the mint mark is relatively straightforward to locate. However, on more modern quarters, the position of the mint mark may vary slightly. In particular, it may be found slightly to the right of the main portrait of George Washington, which can make it a bit more challenging to spot at first glance.
