XRP, also known as Ripple Coin, was created by Ripple Labs in 2012 as a digital asset primarily designed for cross-border payments and remittances, aiming to enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of traditional inter-bank transactions.
NewCoin, however, did not stay that name for long. The company was swiftly renamed OpenCoin, reflecting its broader ambitions and vision.
