Ant Crypto is a novel swarm-based attack for the cryptanalysis of Data Encryption Standard (DES). It iteratively searches for the secret key using Binary ANT Colony Optimization (BACO) and generates several candidate optimum keys across different runs, based on routes completed by ants. This attack has been compared to other state-of-the-art evolutionary-based attacks and has shown to be effective in deducing large numbers of valuable bits, both in terms of time and space complexity.
