I'm curious about the limited number of bitcoins. Why is it that there can only be 21 million bitcoins in existence? What's the reason behind this specific cap? Why are there only 21000000 bitcoins?

Due to the implementation of rounding operators within the Bitcoin codebase, it is highly unlikely that the exact number of 21 million Bitcoins will ever be issued.
