I've heard that Rinkeby, which was once a popular Ethereum test network, might be deprecated. I'm wondering if this is true and, if so, what are the alternatives for testing smart contracts and dapps on Ethereum?

Cloudflare's Ethereum Gateway has recently been launched with support for the Rinkeby testnet.
